The Sage of Arunachala


"The Sage of Arunachala" is a 73-minute documentary on the life and teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi with narration by John Flynn. The film takes us from the birth of the sage to his final moments when crowds of devotees pushed in from all sides to have their last look. The youtube 7:24 minute clip summarizes Sri Ramana's teachings, backdropped by archival films and photos, and takes us to the final day of his life.

I didn't realise that Ramana got so sick late on. His legs are so bendy and it looks painful for him to walk.

Also if you notice his head is shaking. This was a permanent condition that was a result of his samadhi experience when he was a boy. Ramana said something like, 'the descent of Divine Light was similar to an elephant in a grass hut,' - so, how could the body withstand it without reacting? Supposedly the only time his head stopped shaking was when he was intensely focussed.
