Wish best wishes to you and your loved ones at this joy-filled time of Ganesha Chaturthi. In celebration of this day, I have uploaded a beautiful photograph of Rukku, who was Temple Elephant for many years at Arunachaleswarar Temple.
She was a beautiful soul, and I pray the last Elephant ever to be called upon to serve at the Arunachala Temple.
Lovely Rukku

Is it still the practice to send temple elephants to a rejuvenation camp in Mudamalai forest? I remember Rukku well. A beautiful elephant, a gentle giant.
After the death of Rukku, the Temple has not brought in another elephant to replace her ... not that she could be replaced. I believe there is not much support amongst devotees to continue with the practice of having an elephant at Arunachaleswarar Temple. For this reason think it would be a very controversial decision. Elephants belong in the forest with its own ... not suffering a solitary, life in unnatural surroundings.

My prayers to Rukku, wish the temple opens soon & I will be able to breathe in your soul when I come to visit Arunachala & do the circumbulation.
